Ms. Jana Rittman Received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award

Human Resource Specialist at the Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS), Ms. Jana Rittman received the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award for outstanding meritorious service while serving the Judge Advocate General and Commander, Navy Legal Service Command from August 2014 through June 2019.

Rittman’s service has been marked by outstanding professionalism and dedication.  She skillfully oversaw the day-to-day management behind personnel decisions was especially critical to the JAG Corps attaining the goal of increasing officer inventory to meet officer program authorizations growth that began in 2014. 

Utilizing analytical tools and models to provide routine and specialized products, Rittman ensured the overall health of the JAG Corps officer community.  She expertly supported the management of accessions, deferments, special requests, resignations, retirements, and most notably, the products behind promotion planning.

Rittman flawlessly oversaw the FY18, FY19 and FY20 Promotion Plans and was instrumental in managing retention policies, like Judge Advocate Continuation Pay.  Leveraging her outstanding organizational skills, Rittman developed historical personnel management data and models that will continue to support the JAG Corps for a long time.

The Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award Medal is a decoration presented by the United States Secretary of the Navy to recognize civilian employees who have provided exceptional services that have made a significant and positive impact on a specific activity or geographic location. It is the third highest honorary award that the U.S. Navy can bestow upon a civilian employee, after the Navy Distinguished Civilian Service Award and the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award.
