National Security Law

This course presents advanced topics in national security law to senior judge advocates, providing opportunity to discuss challenging aspects of current operations and their legal implications at the classified level. Material will be presented in lecture and seminar-type discussion. Topics include transregional contingencies, electronically-denied environments, sensitive intelligence collection, unmanned and autonomous systems, cyber-enabled operations, covert action, competition in the Arctic, and challenges in the space domain.

Target Audience

This course is for senior judge advocates with experience in national security law practice and an intermediate or higher understanding of the principles of the law of the sea and the law of armed conflict. This course is recommended for judge advocates assigned to operational or strategic level commands requiring expertise in the law and policy concerning armed conflict, navigation or overflight, intelligence, information operations, or cyber activity, or the maritime domain.
