Advanced Staff Judge Advocate
Administrative LawThis advanced level course provides training on key legal issues in core SJA practice areas. Topics include ethics and standards of conduct, professional responsibility, ADSEP processing, major investigations, SAPR, claims and tort litigation, DON IG investigations, civilian personnel law, fiscal law, environmental law, and operational law issues affecting the staff judge advocate. The course combines lectures with panel discussions and breakout sessions based on specific areas of practice. Facilitators include current or former senior staff judge advocates from SECNAV, OPNAV, Component Commands, Fleet Commands, Type Commands, CNIC/Regions, HQMC, NAVPERSCOM, IG, and major Navy or Marine Corps installations and operational commands. For Navy judge advocates, this course provides ethics counselor certification.
Target Audience
Senior Judge Advocates from the sea services, currently serving in or slated for SJA tours at three and four star commands. Primary focus is on the principal SJAs but deputy SJAs at these commands may be considered on a case by case basis.
