Region Legal Service Office Northwest (RLSO NW)

RLSO NW provides prosecution, command services, and court-reporting support to Navy and Marine Corps commands and legal assistance to active duty personnel, family members, and retirees located within its assigned geographic area, and performs such other functions and tasks as may be directed by the competent authority. RLSO NW is organized into departments that provide command service advice, courts-martial prosecution, and legal assistance. General lists of services and contact information for offices are listed below. Individuals seeking advice regarding military criminal defense should contact the Defense Service Office (DSO).

Area of Responsibility

The area of responsibility currently encompasses Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Hawaii, and Canada (outside the Northeast Territories).

Trial Services

The Military Justice Department provides case screening services and recommendations to commands on potential court-martial cases and prosecutes all Navy special and general courts-martial.

Command Services

Command Services provides advice in the following subject areas: Administrative Law, Admiralty, Administrative Separations and Processing, Disciplinary Options, Freedom of Expression and Grievances, Homeland Security, Interactions with Civilian Law Enforcement Agencies, Subpoenas, JAGMAN Investigations, Military Justice, Operational Law, Personnel Matters, Standards of Conduct and Government Ethics.

RLSO NW provides legal consultation and command services support primarily for Navy commands without their own assigned judge advocate or general counsel. Command clients can contact the closest installation staff judge advocate (SJA) or a command services provider from the Command Services Departments at the headquarters in Bremerton and our Branch Offices at Whidbey Island and Everett and the detachment in Hawaii at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Legal Assistance

RLSO NW provides legal assistance to active duty service members, reservists (dependent on issue and status of orders), retirees, and military dependents on a variety of topics. Legal assistance can include advice on topics such as consumer/financial affairs, disaster relief support/advice, family law, foreclosure advice and counseling, immigration, notary services, powers of attorney, landlord/tenant matters, Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act, small claims court matters, victim assistance, and wills/estate planning. Pre-deployment services are given priority. Please contact your local office to see how it can best meet your pre-deployment needs. Walk-in notary services, power of attorney services, and attorney services are offered during the times listed below.

To request an appointment with an attorney, please call your local Legal Assistance Office or fill out the Client Intake Form and submit it via DOD SAFE in order to protect your private information. If you do not have access to DOD SAFE, as it requires a CAC to initiate use, please contact your local office and they can send you a link through which to upload your files in a secure manner.
